What is house gnome?

House gnomes, also known as household gnomes, are mythical creatures believed to be helpful spirits who live in homes and assist with household chores. They are most commonly found in Northern European folklore, particularly in Germany and Scandinavia.

According to legend, house gnomes are small, humanoid creatures, usually around the size of a small child, and are dressed in rustic clothing. They are believed to be shy and reclusive, preferring to work behind the scenes without being noticed.

House gnomes are thought to be excellent helpers around the house, performing tasks such as sweeping floors, arranging dishes, and watering plants. They are also said to be vigilant protectors of the home, warding off pests and evil spirits. However, if they are mistreated or disrespected, they can become mischievous and cause problems, such as hiding keys and making strange noises in the middle of the night.

Although house gnomes are often seen as purely mythical creatures, some people continue to believe in their presence today. Some even leave offerings of food or drink to thank them for their help around the house.
